"Was a mistake for us"

We took our boat there for various repairs.

Didnt take long before we realised it was a big mistake. The owner had started the job of servicing the motor / gearbox etc and couple there were a few other jobs which we agreed to be done over 3 visits. The journey take us 2 days travel there and 2 days return.

Most of the time we found ourselves waiting around for hours for him to start working on our boat. The last day we went there we arrived at marina 9.30am, he came to the our boat to work at 4pm, he did 2 hours work and went home. So we had to head all the way back, It was a total of 4 days travelling for 2 hours work ! which cost us £200 to connect an earth to the lounge lights and changed the weed hatch gasket. He left our boat with big round hole in the ceiling where he search for the earth, plaster everywhere. Was absolutely appauling

All up we paid close to £3500 of work, some of that work we had a differant company fix as the work wasnt done. Even though everything was checked, the excelarator cable and gear box cable came off on our travels.

We paid for a full service/checkover to the machanics and full check over but again 1 Week later we broke down,. I phoned him and he asked me (over the phone) "if there was any oil in the gear box or had I not put any in". (I told him I just paid full service, tht would be your job to check the gear box ! )

We originally wanted the plate under the gear boxed replaced as it was noisy , despite going all that way several times and paying alll that money, the job never was done.

No one was helpful, even the marina didnt give us a entrance key for over night stay which resulted in us being locked out nd the boat locked in , would not even let us use the toilet etc which was rediculous as we were a resident at their other marina , paying £7500 up front per year.

We have learnt the hard way, cost us a lot of money, poor work and we are still chasing him for receipts ofor the works ( 4 months later) So far he given us 1 receipt for £1200 , We paid him £3500 so we involving HMRC..
